Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair






Replacing vehicle speed sensor (VSS)

Removal

Cars without turbocharged engines
- Ignition off

Remove:
- Preheating hose between the manifold and the air cleaner (ACL).

Cars with turbocharged engines




- Ignition off

Remove:
- Mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector
- Hose between air cleaner (ACL) and turbocharger (TC) unit

Separate the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) connector





Remove:
- The cable conduit/bracket nut. Unhook the components
- Clean thoroughly around the sensor
- Sensor screw and remove sensor.

Install the new sensor with a new O-ring




Lubricate the O-ring.
Install sensor.
Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm.

Install:
- Bracket and cable conduit
Tightening torque: 5.5 Nm.
- Connector.

Cars without turbocharged engines

Install:
- Preheating hose between the manifold and the air cleaner (ACL).

Cars with turbocharged engines





Install:
- Air pipe between turbocharger (TC) and air cleaner (ACL). Make sure that all the connections are in place
- Mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector

Checking diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
Check that diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) have been erased.
