VGLA - Functions

Alarm Unit

When is the alarm activated
When the car is locked using the remote control.
When the car is locked using the key in the driver's door (market dependent/programmable function)

Cars with 'normal' locking system or two step unlocking.
If the internal switch is pressed when the driver's or front passenger's door is open and the door is closed. This only applies if the key is taken out of the ignition.
(Market dependent/programmable function).

NOTE: Deactivating the alarm using the key is a market dependent/programmable function.

When is the alarm activated

4 and 5-door cars
When unlocking the car using the remote control.
When unlocking the car using the key in the driver's door.

4-door cars
When unlocking the boot using the remote control or key.
The boot is locked and the alarm automatically activated when the boot is closed.

5-door cars
When unlocking the tailgate using the remote control or key.
The tailgate is locked and the alarm is activated when LOCK is pressed on the remote control.

When is the alarm triggered
The alarm can be triggered 25 seconds after it has been activated.
The system uses this time to read and memorize the 'normal' signals from the different sensors, e.g. ultrasound sensor - level sensor.
The alarm is triggered if (depending on the alarm components):
one of the doors, boot/tailgate or bonnet is opened.
the car is hot-wired (+15 is energised)
a window is broken (glass break sensor, metal wire in the three rear windows of 5-door cars).
something moves inside the car (ultrasound sensors).
the level of the car changes (level sensor).
the siren is disconnected, eg the wires are cut.

What happens when the alarm is triggered
It sounds for about 25 seconds.
The alarm then stays in a waiting position for about 5 seconds before a new alarm sequence can be sounded.
Light signals are given off for about 5 minutes via the indicators.
The courtesy light is switched on for about 5 minutes.

How to turn off the alarm once it has been triggered
By unlocking the car using the remote control.
By unlocking the car using the key in the driver's door (market dependent/programmable function).

'Panic alarm' (market dependent function)
Can be triggered by pressing the 'panic button' on the remote control for at least 3 seconds or pressing it twice within 3 seconds.
The alarm goes off for 25 seconds.
The panic alarm can be turned off by pressing one of the buttons on the remote control.

Special Alarm Functions

Automatic Alarm Activation (not central locking system)
The alarm is activated if the ignition is off, the driver's door is opened and closed. The alarm can then be triggered after 25 seconds. The function can be interrupted during this time through an unlocking command. The function is market dependent/programmable.

Temporary Disconnection of Automatic Activation(service or garage position)
Close the bonnet, boot/tailgate and all doors.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Press UNLOCK on the internal switch for the central locking 3 seconds. The car is first unlocked, after 3 seconds it is locked and then directly unlocked again.
Press UNLOCK on the remote control within 15 seconds.
The alarm is now disconnected and does not react to any input signals.
To reconnected automatic activation press LOCK on the remote control.

Temporary Disconnection of Ultrasound and Level Sensors
This function should be used to prevent false alarms:
- if for example leaving pets in the car and still activating the alarm.
- if the fuel-driven parking heater is used when the alarm is activated.
- when the car is transported by lorry, train or boat.
Close the bonnet, boot/tailgate and all doors.
Remove the key from the ignition.
Press LOCK on the internal switch for the central locking >3 seconds. The car is locked, after 3 seconds it is locked and then directly unlocked again.
The sensors are now disconnected and the alarm does not react to any input signals. The sensors are reconnected when the ignition is turned on.

Emergency Starting / Over-Ride the car
Can be used if the remote control has been lost or does not work and the alarm cannot be deactivated using the key (= function deselected).
Unlock the driver's door using the key and open the door.
The alarm goes off.
Wait until the alarm stops, about 25 seconds.
Start the car within 10 seconds of the alarm stopping.
The emergency start can be used seven times in a row. The function is then blocked and the alarm can only be deactivated using a working remote control.
The first time the emergency start is used the alarm must go off because of the open driver door'. The following 6 times the reason for the alarm can be any. The function is market dependent/programmable.

Power Failure
The control module remembers the position it is in if power is cut.
When the circuit is closed again the alarm is set to the triggered or deactivated position depending on its position when the power failed.

Courtesty Light Functions, LED

Courtesy light

The courtesy light has a soft transition from the off to the on position ('soft-start') and between the on and the off positions ('dim-down').

The courtesy light is switched on and stays lit for 30 seconds:
when the ignition is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition.
after closing the last door, if the ignition is off.
when the car is unlocked.

The courtesy light is turned off immediately:
when the last door is closed, if the ignition is on.
when the ignition is turned on, if all the doors are closed.
when the car is locked.

The courtesy light stays on for max 15 minutes if a door is left open and the ignition is off.
The courtesy light is lit and stays on for 5 minutes if the alarm is triggered.

LED
The LED flashes with different frequencies depending on the status of the central locking system/alarm and electronic start prevention plug (immobilizer).

1 Hz Ignition turned off.
The alarm or immobilizer is activated (immobilizer applies to cars without alarms).
4 Hz When the alarm is deactivated until the ignition is turned on.
Shows that the alarm has been activated.
4 Hz For 15 seconds after the ignition is turned on.
Shows that the VGLA control module or electronic start prevention plug has detected a fault.

NOTE: For some faults only the LED flashes.
