Signal Missing. Permanent Fault

Signal missing. Permanent fault

STC or DSTC

Question

Does the car have a DSTC system?

Yes - DSTC

No - STC

------------------------

STC - Checking the connectors for the control module and wheel sensor

DSTC - Signal missing. Permanent fault DSTC

-------------------------------------------------

Checking the connectors for the control module and wheel sensor

- Ignition off
- Check the wheel sensor and ABS control module connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault
- Reinstall the components, reconnect the connectors etc.
- Raise the car so that the relevant wheel is clear of the ground
- Ignition on
- Read off the wheel speed for the relevant wheel.
Spin the relevant wheel and check that the wheel speed is updated.
If the wheel speed is updated, the cause of the fault was loose connections in the connectors for the control module or wheel sensor.

Other information:
- To disconnect the wheel sensor connector, see Wheel sensor, front, replacing Wheel Sensor, Front, Replacing
- To disconnect the ABS control module connector, see Control module (ABS), replacing Control Module (ABS), Replacing.

Is the wheel speed updated?

Yes - Procedure complete

No - Checking wiring and sensors

-------------------------------------------------

Checking wiring and sensors
Check the wiring for power supply between the relevant wheel sensor:

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0010 Front left wheel sensor
terminal #2 and control module terminal #1

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0020 Front right wheel sensor
terminal #1 and control module terminal #20
for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , a short-circuit to ground according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault and a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: With the ignition on, the voltage should be approximately 1 V under Ubat measured at the ground terminal.

Check the signal cables between the relevant wheel sensor:

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0010 Front left wheel sensor
terminal #2 and control module terminal #1

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0020 Front right wheel sensor
terminal #2 and control module terminal #19
for an open-circuit according to Checking wiring and terminals.
Check the sensor (with the sensor connected): Switch on the ignition and measure the signal from the sensor between the breakout box:

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0010 Front left wheel sensor
terminal #1 and ground terminal.

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) ABS-0020 Front right wheel sensor
terminal #19 and ground terminal.
The voltage should vary by approximately 1 V when the pulse wheel is rotating. Replace the wheel sensor if the voltage is faulty.
Remedy as necessary.

Other information:
- To connect the breakout box, see Connecting the ABS breakout box Connecting the Breakout Box
- To replace the wheel sensor, see Wheel sensor, front, replacing Wheel Sensor, Front, Replacing
- To disconnect the control module, see Control module (ABS), replacing Control Module (ABS), Replacing
- For other values, see Signal specification, ABS control module Signal Specification, ABS Control Module.

Select Continue when the fault has been remedied.

Verification

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.

- Ignition off.
- Reinstall connectors, components etc.
- Raise car so the relevant wheel is clear of ground.
- Ignition on.
- Read off wheel speed for relevant wheel.
Spin the relevant wheel and check that wheel speed is updated.

Is the wheel speed updated?

Yes - Verification completed

No - Fault-tracing information

-------------------------------------------------

Fault-tracing information

Information

Fault-tracing information
The fault should have been detected and remedied. As this is not the case fault-tracing has failed.
Exit fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) or make another attempt.

Do you want to exit fault-tracing?

Yes - Exit Fault-Tracing

No - Attempt New Test

Signal missing. Permanent fault DSTC

No signal. Permanent fault

Checking the control unit and wheel sensor connectors

- Ignition off.
- Check the connector of the ABS control unit and the wheel sensor for contact resistance and oxidation, as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.
- Connect the connectors, install the components, etc.
- Raise the car so that the relevant wheel hangs free.
- Ignition on.
- Read off the speed of the relevant wheel.
Spin the relevant wheel and check whether wheel speed has been updated.
If the wheel speed is updated, the fault has been caused by a poor contact in the connector of the control unit or wheel sensor.

Additional information:
- For disconnection of the wheel sensor connector see Wheel sensor, front, replacing Wheel Sensor, Front, Replacing.
- For disconnection of the ABS control unit connector see Replacing the control module for ABS and dynamic stability and traction control (DSTC) Replacing the Control Module for ABS and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC).

Is wheel speed updated?

Yes - Procedure complete

No - Checking the wiring and sensor

------------------------

Checking the wiring and sensor
Check the power supply cables located between the relevant wheel sensor:

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0010 Front LH wheel sensor
#1 and control unit #34

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0020 Front RH wheel sensor
#1 and control unit #4
for an open circuit as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , a short circuit to ground as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault , and a short circuit to voltage supply, as described in Checking wiring and terminals. Permanent fault Checking Wiring and Terminals. Permanent Fault.

Hint: Upon ignition, the voltage in the wire should be approximately 1 V below Ubat measured to ground point.

Check the signal wires between the relevant wheel sensor:

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0010 Front LH wheel sensor
#2 and control unit #33

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0020 Front RH wheel sensor
#2 and control unit #3
for an open circuit as described in Checking wiring and terminals.
With the sensor connected, check the sensor by turning on the ignition and measuring the signal obtained from the sensor between the test box:

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0010 Front LH wheel sensor
#33 and ground point.

Diagnostic trouble code ABS-0020 Front RH wheel sensor
#3 and ground point.
The voltage should vary by approximately 1 V when the sensor wheel rotates. If the voltage supply is faulty, replace the wheel sensor.
Do the necessary corrective action.
