A lead battery contains substances that are harmful to the environment and hazardous to health, such as lead and sulfuric acid. Therefore an unserviceable battery must always be recycled to avoid dangerous substances being released into the environment.

Unserviceable batteries must be treated as hazardous waste. Such batteries must be handle according to the policies of each country.

WARNING: The battery contains sulfuric acid which can cause serious corrosive damage. If the electrolyte comes into contact with your eyes, skin or clothes flush using large quantities of water. Contact a doctor immediately if acid splashes into eyes. Use protective goggles when handling batteries.
