Spare part marking (R-dot)

Note! Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.

Spare part marking (R-dot)
Some of the spare parts are selected to be marked with R-dot, which is an anti-theft marking that is only applicable in the USA.

The following components are R-dot marked:
- front and rear bumper cover
- all side doors
- bonnet
- tailgate
- left and right fender
- left and right fender (full side)
- engine (sump)
- the gearbox
Note that in certain cases the components may be punched or scribed.

On vehicles for USA, these components are marked with the vehicle's VIN number.

Applies to vehicles in the USA
Repairing without spare parts - fixing:
Keep the VIN marking for as long as possible, for example, by masking before grinding and painting. However, the marking can be removed and/or affected without being replaced with a new one if required to achieve the correct quality and surface finish.
Repairing with spare parts - replacement:
Keep the R-dot marking for as long as possible, for example, by masking before grinding and painting. However, the marking can be removed and/or affected without being replaced with a new one if required to achieve the correct quality and surface finish.
Note that the labels, neither R-dot or VIN, are not available as separate spare parts.

Applies to all other vehicles
Components on other vehicles are not VIN marked, the spare parts are, however, the same. In all cases it is acceptable to remove the R-dot marking from the components in connection with repairs.
