Fuel Tank, Draining

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Fuel Extracting Device (VAS 5190)

Wrench (T10202) Vehicles from approximately 11/2002

Procedure

Observe safety precautions. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply System.

Observe rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Fuel Supply System.

- Open fuel filler flap briefly and then close again.


Observe measures when connecting battery.

- With ignition switched off, disconnect Battery Ground (GND) cable - arrow -.





- Remove luggage compartment floor mat.

- Unbolt cover for left locking flange - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 2 - at left locking flange.





- Remove locking ring using wrench (T10202).





- Unbolt cover for right locking flange - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - and - 2 - at right locking flange.





- Mark the fuel return line - 1 - and fuel supply line - 2 -.






Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening system, place clean rags around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.

- Pull both lines from locking flange, by pressing the release buttons.

- Remove locking ring with Wrench (T10202).





- Connect the Fuel Extracting Device (VAS 5190) Ground (GND) wire to the Energy Management Control Module (J644) ground terminal.





- Pull off the left locking flange and set aside with electrical wiring still connected.

- Remove seal.

- Extract the fuel in the left half of the tank through the opening using the Fuel Extracting Device (VAS 5190).

- Pull off the right locking flange and set aside with electrical wiring and fuel lines still connected.





- Remove seal.

- Extract the fuel in the right half of the tank through the opening using the Fuel Extracting Device (VAS 5190).

- Re-install locking flange: Left => [ Left Fuel Delivery Unit with Transfer Fuel Pump and Fuel Gauge Assembly Overview ] MPI Engines Overview, right => [ Right Fuel Delivery Unit with Fuel Pump and Fuel Gauge Assembly Overview ] MPI Engines Overview.
