MMI Radio through August 2008

The radio (R) is located behind the luggage compartment left side trim.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Protective cap for cable connector (VAS 6223/9)

- Switch off all electrical consumers.

- Remove the key.

- If control module is replaced, select replacement function for appropriate control module in guided fault finding routine.

Use the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051) to do so.

Removing

Vehicles with luggage compartment storage bin:

- Open left luggage compartment storage bin.

Vehicles without luggage compartment storage bin:

- Remove the left luggage compartment trim panel.

All vehicles:

- Loosen nuts - 2 - and - 4 - (5 Nm) and screw - 1 - (5 Nm) on Infotainment rack.





- Tip rack into luggage compartment until screws on radio - 3 - can be reached.

- Disconnect all harness connectors on radio - 3 -.

- Attach the (VAS 6223/9) - 1 - onto the MOST-Bus connector - 2 -.





- Remove screws - 1 - (4 Nm).





- Remove the satellite radio (R146). Refer to => [ Satellite Radio through May 2009 ] Satellite Radio through May 2009 - 4 -, if equipped.

The satellite radio covers one of the two screws.

- Remove the radio - 3 - from the rack - 2 -.

- Remove Speech Input Control Module (J507). Refer to=> [ Speech Input Control Module through August 2008 ] Service and Repair.

Installing

- Install in reverse order.
