Input Shaft Seal

• If ATF flows out at underside of transmission bell housing, input shaft seal and/or ATF breather pipe may be leaking. Before replacing any parts, be sure to find actual cause of fault.

• Input shaft seal must be replaced if leaking.

• ATF breather pipe must be replaced if leaking. Refer to => [ ATF Breather Pipe ] ATF Breather Pipe.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Seal Ring Extractor (T40014)

• Thrust Piece (T40015)

Procedure

• General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Repair Information.

• Automatic transmission clean working conditions, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

• Transmission removed.

- Rotate (T40014) by hand into shaft seal until the tool has a good hold in the shaft seal. Then tighten puller with an open-end wrench.





- You can pull out shaft seal a short distance by screwing in rear bolt of puller.

- Tighten the (T40014) so that it engages securely in the shaft seal and continue tightening shaft seal by installing bolt.

- Repeat procedure until shaft seal has been pulled out completely.

• Input shaft must be installed in order to install the shaft seal.

- Coat the new shaft seal - A - with ATF.





- Carefully push the shaft seal onto the input shaft with the open side facing the transmission without touching splines on the shaft.

• The shaft seal can be damaged if it touches the input shaft splines.

• Slide shaft seal as far as possible into cover so that it cannot bend when driving in.

- Drive in shaft seal until it stops using (T40015).





- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ ATF, Filling for ATF Flush ] ATF, Filling for ATF Flush.

- After installing the transmission, check the ATF level and fill if necessary.
