Cooling Fan and Shroud Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning Battery Disconnect Warning.


1. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

2. Remove the Mass Air Flow sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair for V6 engine, or Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair for V8 engine.

3. Remove the air outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement for V6 engine, or Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement for V8 engine.

4. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LFX) .





5. Detach and remove the coolant recovery hose (1) from the coolant recovery hose retaining locks (2).





6. Detach the coolant recovery reservoir hose (2) from the coolant recovery reservoir (1).





7. Detach the cooling fan motor electrical connector (2), from the main wiring harness (1).

Danger:
To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





9. Detach the transmission cooling hoses (1) from the fan shroud.

10. Lower the vehicle.





11. Remove the fan shroud by pressing down on retaining lugs (1) to release it from the radiator assembly.





Note:
When removing or installing the fan assembly always hold it by the fan motor mounting struts.

Note:
Do not grasp the assembly by the fan rings as this may cause vibrations when the fans are in motion.

12. While holding the fan motor mounting struts remove the cooling fan and shroud assembly (1).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly (1).

2. Install the cooling fan and shroud assembly (1) onto the radiator by pushing assembly forward until tabs lock into radiator retaining lugs. Listen for an audible click to confirm fitting.

Danger:
To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.





4. Install the transmission cooling hoses (1) onto the fan assembly.





5. Attach the cooling fan electrical connector (2) to the main wiring harness (1).





6. Attach the coolant recovery hose (1) into the coolant recovery hose retaining locks (2).

7. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LFX) .

8. Install the air outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement for V6 engine, or Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement for V8 engine.

9. Install the Mass Air Flow sensor. Refer to Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair for V6 engine, or Mass Airflow Sensor with Intake Air Temperature Sensor Replacement Service and Repair for V8 engine.

10. Connect the battery ground lead to the vehicle. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

11. Start and run engine until the cooling fans are activated.
