E: Display Does Not Respond to Buttons, No Beep When Buttons Pushed or Driver Alert Given

E1 CHECK WARNING CHIME MODULE


^ Check for "fasten safety belt" reminder chime or "key left in ignition" reminder chime.

Does chime sound?

Yes

GO to E4.


No

SERVICE warning chime module.



E2 CHECK SWITCH WIRING CONNECTIONS


^ Remove instrument panel finish panel to expose instrument cluster


^ Check connections at instrument indicator switch


^ Are connections secure?


Yes

GO to E3.


No

SECURE connections and RECHECK.



E3 CHECK INSTRUMENT INDICATOR SWITCH (BUTTON PRESSED)


^ Unplug instrument indicator switch from instrument cluster (6-pin connector is located at front face of cluster to the far right).


^ Using Rotunda Digital Volt-Ohmmeter 014-00407 or equivalent, measure resistance between Pin No.2 (yellow wire) and Pin No.4 (orange wire) of connector unplugged.


^ The resistance should be: E/M button - 4900-5400 ohms SELECT button - 2200-2400 ohms RESET button - 320-360 ohms NO BUTTON PRESSED - 17000-17800 ohms


NOTE: Press only one button at a time. Wiggle wire at 6 pin switch connector and at instrument indicator switch and check for loose connections.


^ Is the resistance within specified range?


Yes

GO to E4.


No

REPLACE instrument indicator switch



E4 CHECK CLUSTER WIRING CONNECTIONS


^ Visually inspect 6-pin switch connector for poor/damaged or missing connections.


^ Do all pins check OK?


Yes

GO to E5.


No

REPLACE instrument cluster.



E5 CHECK SWITCH MODULE


^ Visually inspect switch module connector for poor/damaged or missing connection.


^ Do all pins check OK?


Yes

GO to E6.


No

REPLACE instrument indicator switch.



E6 CHECK TONE CIRCUIT


^ Disconnect battery ground cable


^ Remove instrument cluster.


^ Turn ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position and wait for the fasten safety belt reminder chime to end.


Place jumper wire between harness Connector B Pin 19 and ground. Listen for chime.

Does chime sound?







Yes

REPLACE instrument cluster.


No

SERVICE wiring Circuit No.184 for open. CHECK for correct warning chime module part number or operation.
