Seat Backrest - Front, Without Fold Flat





Removal

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.

NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Remove the driver seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.

2. NOTE: The seat track rear height adjust must be all the way up or the recliner cover post will not slide out of the seat track hole.

NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of recliner cover shown.

Remove the recliner cover.

1. Remove the scrivet at the rear of the recliner cover.

2. Remove the screw at the rear of the recliner cover.

3. Slide the recliner cover post out of the seat track hole and remove the recliner cover.





3. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar handle.

1. Push the cushion trim cover and foam pad back and locate the manual lumbar handle clip under the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the clip and slide the manual lumbar handle off the shaft.





4. NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of cushion side shield shown.

Separate the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the scrivet at the rear of the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the screw at the rear of the cushion side shield.

3. Remove the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.

4. Pull out to release the clips and separate the cushion side shield.





5. If equipped, separate the wire harness pin-type retainer, disconnect the seat control switch and remove the cushion side shield.





6. If equipped, separate the manual lumbar cable.

1. Remove the pin-type retainer, release all the outboard cushion trim cover J-clips and position the cushion trim cover flap up.

2. Separate the manual lumbar cable retainer.

3. Pull the manual lumbar case out of the adjuster.





7. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster.





8. Separate the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers from under the seat.





9. Disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

1. Slide the locking clip back.

2. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.





10. If equipped, disconnect the backrest electrical feed electrical connector and release the wire harness retainers attached under the seat.





11. Release the inboard cushion trim cover J-clip attached to the inboard recliner.

12. Remove the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts and remove the backrest assembly.

Installation

1. Position the backrest assembly to the seat track and start the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts by hand.

2. Tighten the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts in the sequence shown.

1. Tighten the rear outboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

2. Tighten the rear inboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

3. Tighten the front inboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

4. Tighten the front outboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).





3. Connect the backrest electrical feed electrical connector. Route and attach the electrical connector and wire harness pin-type retainers to the seat.





4. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip back. Route and attach the electrical connector and wire harness pin-type retainers to the seat.





5. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable in the following sequence.

1. Position the manual lumbar cable into the adjuster.

2. Position the manual lumbar cable cover into the adjuster.

3. Install the manual lumbar cable retainer.

4. Position the cushion trim cover flap back around the side of the seat, attach all the outboard cushion trim cover J-clips and install the pin-type retainer.

6. Connect the seat control switch and attach the wire harness pin-type retainer to the cushion frame.

7. Attach the cushion side shield in the following sequence.

1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before attaching to the seat.

2. Align the 4 cushion side shield clips to the seat and push in seating the clips.

3. Install the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.

4. Install the screw at the rear of the cushion side shield.

5. Install the scrivet at the rear of the cushion side shield.

8. If equipped, install the manual lumbar handle in the following sequence.

1. Install the clip onto the manual lumbar handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual lumbar handle to the manual lumbar shaft.

3. Push the manual lumbar handle onto the manual lumbar shaft, seating the clip.

9. Install the recliner cover in the following sequence.

1. Return the barrel nut back to the seat before attaching to the seat.

2. Slide the recliner cover post into the barrel nut on the seat.

3. Install the screw at the rear of the recliner cover.

4. Install the scrivet at the rear of the recliner cover.
