Pinpoint Test R: The LH/RH Turn Signal Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
When the multifunction switch is in the LH or RH TURN position, a message is sent to the Instrument Cluster (IC) from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. The IC, upon receipt of the LH or RH turn message, flashes the LH or RH turn signal indicator on and off.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- SJB
- IC
PINPOINT TEST R: THE LH/RH TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

R1 CHECK THE LH OR RH TURN SIGNAL LAMPS OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- Operate the LH or RH turn signal. Observe the exterior LH or RH turn lamps.
- Do the turn signal lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to R2.
No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

R2 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC LH or RH turn signal indicator (L_TURN or R_TURN) active command and command the LH or RH turn signal indicator on and off. Observe the LH or RH turn signal indicator.
- Does the LH or RH turn signal indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?
Yes
GO to R3.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U0140 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AX. Pinpoint Tests AX: DTC U0140
No
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Body Control Systems. TEST the system for normal operation.
