Pinpoint Test AR: DTC U0102
Normal Operation
- DTC U0102 (Lost Communication With Transfer Case Control Module (4x4CM)) - sets in continuous memory if data messages received from the 4X4 control module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for greater than 5 seconds.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- 4X4 control module
- Instrument Cluster (IC)
PINPOINT TEST AR: DTC U0102
-------------------------------------------------
AR1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?
Yes
GO to AR2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
-------------------------------------------------
AR2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the 4X4 control module pass the network test?
Yes
GO to AR3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
-------------------------------------------------
AR3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AN (B1317) or GO to Pinpoint Test AO (B1318). Pinpoint Tests AN: DTC B1317 Pinpoint Tests AO: DTC B1318
No
GO to AR4.
-------------------------------------------------
AR4 RECHECK THE IC DTCs
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.
- Clear the DTCs. Repeat the IC self-test.
- Is DTC U0102 still present?
Yes
GO to AR5.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
-------------------------------------------------
AR5 CHECK FOR DTC U0102 OR DTC U0114 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0102 set in the PCM or DTC U0114 set in the ABS module?
Yes
INSTALL a new 4X4 control module. REFER to Transfer Case. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
