Seat Backrest - Front, With Fold Flat

Removal

WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors or probe the electrical connectors. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the safety belt pretensioners or adaptive load limiting retractors which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.

All seats

1. Remove the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.

2. Remove the inboard recliner lower cover.

1. Remove the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.

2. Remove the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.

3. Pull out at the rear of the inboard recliner lower cover to release the retainers and remove.





3. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar handle.

1. Push the cushion cover and foam pad back and locate the manual lumbar handle clip under the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the clip and slide the manual lumbar handle off the shaft.





4. NOTE: For retainer clarity, inside of cushion side shield shown.

Remove the cushion side shield.

1. Remove the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.

2. Remove the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.

3. Remove the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.

4. Pull out on the cushion side shield to release the clips and separate.
- If equipped, disconnect the seat control switch.





Seats with a DVD player

5. Detach the cushion cover inboard J-clips and pin-type retainer.





6. Detach the DVD player electrical connector and wire harness retainers.





7. Detach the DVD player wire harness retainers.





8. Detach the retainers and route out the DVD player wire harness.





All seats

9. Seats with power seat track, disconnect electrical connectors and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.

1. Detach the connector and wire harness retainers.

2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.

3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.

4. Disconnect the backrest feed electrical connector.





10. Seats with manual seat track, disconnect the electrical connector and separate pin-type retainers from under the seat.

1. Separate the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.

2. Slide the side air bag electrical connector locking clip back.

3. Push the tab in and disconnect the side air bag module electrical connector.





11. Remove the pin-type retainer, release the cushion cover outboard J-clips and position the cushion cover up.





12. Separate the wire harness and cable retainers.

1. If equipped, separate the lumbar cable retainer.

2. If equipped, pull the manual lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.

3. Separate the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainer.
- Route the wire harness out from under the seat.





13. If equipped, remove the manual lumbar cable from the adjuster in the following sequence.
- Pull the lumbar cable cover out of the adjuster.

- Remove the cable end from the adjuster.





14. Separate the cushion cover rear J-clip.





15. Open the 2 retainers under the seat at the rear and separate the recliner cable.





16. Remove the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts and remove the backrest assembly.

Installation

All seats

1. Position the backrest assembly to the seat track and install the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts finger-tight.

2. Tighten the 4 recliner-to-seat track bolts.

1. Tighten the rear outboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

2. Tighten the rear inboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

3. Tighten the front inboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).

4. Tighten the front outboard bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).





3. Position the recliner cable into the 2 retainers under the seat and close the retainers.

4. Attach the cushion cover J-clip at the rear.

5. Install the inboard recliner lower cover in the following sequence.

1. Align the inboard recliner lower cover to the inner cover and push in, seating the rear clips.

2. Install the screw at the side of the inboard recliner lower cover.

3. Install the screw at the back of the inboard recliner lower cover.

6. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable into the adjuster.

7. Attach the wire harness and cable retainers.

1. Route and attach the side air bag module wire harness pin-type retainer.
- Seats with power seat track, route the side air bag module wire harness under the seat.

2. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable cover into the adjuster.

3. If equipped, install the manual lumbar cable retainer.





8. Seats with manual seat track, route the side air bag module wire harness under the seat.





9. Position the cushion cover flap back around the side of the seat, attach all the outboard cushion cover J-clips and install the pin-type retainer.

10. Seats with manual seat track, connect the electrical connector and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.

1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.

2. Route the wire harness and attach the side air bag module electrical connector and wire harness retainers.





11. Seats with power seat track, connect electrical connectors and attach the pin-type retainers under the seat. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.

1. Connect the side air bag module electrical connector and slide the locking clip to the lock position.

2. Connect the backrest feed electrical connector.

3. Route the wire harness and attach the connectors and wire harness retainers.





Seats with a DVD player

12. Route the DVD player wire harness and attach the retainers. For correct passenger seat wire harness routing, refer to Seat Wire Harness Routing Seat Wire Harness Routing.





13. Route and attach the DVD player wire harness and electrical connector retainers.





14. Route and attach the DVD player wire harness retainers.





15. NOTICE: The DVD player wire harness must be routed under the cushion cover and above the cushion cover pin-type retainer or the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system will not operate correctly.

Attach the cushion cover J-clip and install the cushion cover pin-type retainer.





All seats

16. Attach the cushion side shield in the following sequence.

1. Return all retaining clips back to the cushion side shield before attaching to the seat.

2. Align the cushion side shield clips to the seat and push in, seating the clips.

3. Install the screw at the back of the cushion side shield.

4. Install the screw at the side of the cushion side shield.

5. Install the screw at the front of the cushion side shield.

17. If equipped, install the manual lumbar handle in the following sequence.

1. Install the clip onto the manual lumbar handle.

2. Align the splines of the manual lumbar handle to the manual lumbar shaft.

3. Push the manual lumbar handle onto the manual lumbar shaft, seating the clip.

18. Install the front passenger seat. For additional information, refer to Seat - Front Seat - Front.
