Rail Assembly - Roof, Rear Track
Removal
NOTE: If required, there is a special service replacement fastener available if a screw hole becomes stripped during installation. For additional information, refer to Roof Opening Panel - Exploded View [1][2]Exploded Views.
1. Remove the roof opening panel sliding glass. For additional information, refer to Roof Opening Panel Glass- Front Sliding Roof Opening Panel Glass - Front Sliding.
2. Remove the roof opening panel side trim. For additional information, refer to Roof Opening Panel Trim- Side Roof Opening Panel Trim - Side.
3. If installing a new roof rail assembly rear track, carefully slide the rail assembly forward and out of the roof rail assembly rear track.
4. NOTICE: Carefully mark the location of the roof rail assembly rear track in 3 places before removing any fasteners. The new roof rail assembly rear track must be installed in exactly the same position.
NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.
Remove the 6 rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws.
5. NOTE: The center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws will be captured inside the roof rail assembly rear track. In some cases, it may be necessary to lift roof rail assembly rear tracks to completely remove screws from roof threads to allow roof rail assembly rear track removal.
Completely loosen the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws.
6. Slide roof rail assembly rear track rearward to disengage front clip and remove assembly.
7. Remove the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws from the roof rail assembly rear track.
Installation
1. Install the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws into the roof opening panel frame by hand. Make sure they are seated all the way.
2. If slots are not already present in the roof rail assembly rear track, the roof rail assembly rear track will need to be modified prior to installation. Using a small die grinder or equivalent, cut 2 clearance slots on the inside edge of the roof rail assembly rear track to the specification shown.
3. Position the roof rail assembly rear track into the roof opening panel frame. The slots will allow clearance of the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws.
4. Loosen the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws as necessary to allow the roof rail assembly rear track to slide forward to engage the front clip.
- Align the roof rail assembly rear track to the alignment marks made previously.
5. Install the remaining 6 rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws and tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
6. Tighten the 2 center rear roof rail assembly rear track-to-roof opening panel frame screws to 3 Nm (27 lb-in).
7. If installing a new roof rail assembly rear track, install the link into the roof rail assembly rear track. Make sure the rail assembly shoes are installed in the roof rail assembly rear track and aligned correctly during installation.
8. Install the roof opening panel sliding glass. For additional information, refer to Roof Opening Panel Glass- Front Sliding Roof Opening Panel Glass - Front Sliding.
9. Test the operation of the roof opening panel. If roof opening panel glass appears to bind or move slowly, remove the roof opening panel sliding glass and repeat Steps 4 through 8.
10. Install the roof opening panel side trim panel. For additional information, refer to Roof Opening Panel Trim- Side Roof Opening Panel Trim - Side.
