Oil Cooler: Service and Repair




Oil Cooler

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Using a suitable tool, clamp both coolant hoses near the oil cooler to keep the coolant from leaking.

3. Disconnect both coolant hoses from the oil cooler.

4. Remove the oil filter and discard.

5. NOTE: If metal or aluminum is present in the oil cooler, mechanical concerns exist. Failure to correct these concerns may result in engine failure. To diagnose mechanical concerns, REFER to Symptom Chart(s) Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures.

Remove the 6 bolts and the oil cooler.

6. Discard the oil cooler gasket and inspect the oil cooler. Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.

Installation

1. Using new gaskets, install the oil cooler and the 6 bolts.

- Tighten in the sequence shown to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





2. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the oil cooler and remove the clamps.

3. NOTE: Do not lubricate the engine oil filter gasket.

Install a new engine oil filter.

- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in), then turn an additional 180 degrees.
