Removal and Replacement

Removal

1. NOTE: Index mark both driveshaft flanges.

With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. REFER to Jacking and Lifting.

2. Remove the muffler and tailpipe. REFER to Exhaust System.

3. Remove the 4 exhaust support brace bolts and the exhaust support brace.

4. NOTICE: Do not reuse the bolt and washer assemblies for the rear CV (Constant Velocity) joint flange. Install new assemblies or damage to the vehicle may occur.

Remove and discard the 3 RDU (Rear Drive Unit) pinion flange bolt and washer assemblies.





5. Using a flat blade screwdriver in the area shown, separate the driveshaft CV (Constant Velocity) flange from the RDU (Rear Drive Unit) flange .





6. Remove and discard the 4 PTU (Power Transfer Unit) flange bolts.





7. Using a suitable prybar as shown, separate the driveshaft flange from the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) flange.





8. With the help of an assistant, remove the 2 outer center bearing bracket bolts and the driveshaft.





9. If necessary, remove the 2 inner center bearing bolts and remove the center bearing bracket.

Installation

1. If removed, install the center bearing bracket and the 2 inner center bearing bolts.

- Tighten to 20 Nm (177 lb-in).

2. With the help of an assistant, install the driveshaft and the 2 outer center bearing bracket bolts.

- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).





3. NOTICE: Do not reuse the CV (Constant Velocity) flange bolts. Install new bolts or damage to the vehicle may occur.

Install 4 new PTU (Power Transfer Unit) flange bolts.





4. NOTICE: Do not reuse the bolt and washer assemblies for the rear CV (Constant Velocity) joint flange. Install new assemblies or damage to the vehicle may occur.

Install 3 new RDU (Rear Drive Unit) pinion flange bolt and washer assemblies.

- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).





5. Install the exhaust support brace and the 4 exhaust support brace bolts.

- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).

6. Install the muffler and tailpipe. REFER to Exhaust System.

7. If a driveshaft is installed and driveshaft vibration is encountered after installation, index the driveshaft. REFER to Driveline System - General Information.
