Tailgate Latch

Removal and Installation

1. Open and support the tailgate.

2. If equipped, remove the tailgate step assist handle. For additional information, refer to Pickup Bed and Platform Body Tailgate Step Assist Handle.

3. Remove the bolts and the tailgate access panel (7 bolts for flareside bed, 8 for without step tailgate, or 13 with step tailgate).
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

4. Open the clip and release the tailgate latch actuating rod from the tailgate remote control.





5. If equipped, release the tailgate latch actuating rod locator from the tailgate.

6. Remove the upper tailgate latch bolt.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. Remove the lower tailgate latch bolt and the tailgate latch cable.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

8. Remove the tailgate latch.

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
