Pinpoint Test BD: DTC U0137:00

Normal Operation
- DTC U0137:00 (Lost Communication With Trailer Brake Control Module: No Sub Type Information) - sets in continuous memory if data messages received from the Trailer Brake Control (TBC) module over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds or longer. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Module Communications Network Testing and Inspection.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- TBC module
- IPC

PINPOINT TEST BE: DTC U0137:00

BE1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.
- Verify there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to BE2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

BE2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
- Does the TBC module pass the network test?

Yes
GO to BE3.

No
REFER to Module Communications Network Testing and Inspection.

BE3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE TBC MODULE SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded TBC module DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
REFER to Auxiliary Brake System Testing and Inspection.

No
GO to BE4.

BE4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?

Yes
For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BK. For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BL. Pinpoint Tests BK: DTC U3003:16 Pinpoint Tests BL: DTC U3003:17

No
GO to BE5.

BE5 RECHECK THE IPC DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Repeat the IPC self-test.
- Are any DTCs present?

Yes
For DTC U0137:00, INSTALL a new TBC module. REFER to Auxiliary Brake System Service and Repair. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the IPC self-test. If DTC U0137:00 is still present, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
