Steering Column Shroud
Removal
1. If equipped with an automatic transmission, place transmission selector lever in PARK.
2. Remove the steering column opening trim panel.
3. Tilt and telescope the steering column to the full downward and rearward position.
4. With the ignition key in the ON position and brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to DRIVE.
5. NOTICE: Make sure to use extra care when detaching the shift lever boot clips from steering column shrouds or damage to the shift lever boot may occur causing replacement of the shift lever assembly. The shift lever boot is not serviceable separately.
Push inward on the shift lever boot at position (1) and remove from the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
6. Place fingers into the opening in the steering column shrouds where the shift lever boot was removed and pull the upper steering column shroud up and forward to separate it from the lower steering column shroud.
7. Roll the upper steering column shroud upward on the hinge point to clear the emergency flasher activation button, then pull straight rearward to remove.
8. Shift the shift lever to PARK and remove the ignition key.
9. Remove the 3 screws from the lower steering column shroud.
10. Position the tilt/telescope lock lever into full unlocked position and remove the lower steering column shroud.
Installation
1. Position the lower steering column shroud, lock the tilt/telescope lock lever to the full locked position, and install the 3 screws.
NOTE: Make sure the upper steering column shroud hinge clips into the lower steering column shroud and keep rearward pressure while rolling the upper steering column shroud onto the lower steering column shroud.
2. Position the upper steering column shroud onto the lower steering column shroud and secure the front clips.
3. NOTICE: Make sure to use extra care and follow the installation sequence when installing the shift lever boot to the steering column shrouds or damage to the boot may occur causing replacement of the shift lever assembly. The shift lever boot is not serviceable separately.
Install the shift lever boot in the sequence shown.
4. Install the steering column opening trim panel.
