Pinpoint Test AN: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front, RH front, LH rear and RH rear door ajar switch from the Body Control Module (BCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the IPC receives a door ajar indication request from the BCM that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IPC turns on the appropriate door ajar message center warning indicator.
If the door ajar indication request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the door ajar indication remains in its last indication state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received. If the door ajar status message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator active (on).
NOTE: If DTC U0140:00 sets in the IPC, other symptoms may also be present such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Interior lighting concern
- BCM
- IPC
PINPOINT TEST AN: THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
-------------------------------------------------
AN1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE WRENCH AND ENGINE OVER-TEMPERATURE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATORS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175b (Gasoline) or C1232b (Diesel).
- Ignition ON.
- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and over-temperature message center warning indicator is active.
- Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IPC with the PCM connected and disconnected.
- Do the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature warning message center indicators remain off when the PCM is connected and become active with the PCM disconnected?
Yes
GO to AN2.
No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
AN2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION
- Open and close each door while monitoring the interior lamps.
- Do the interior lamps operate correctly with each door?
Yes
GO to AN3.
No
REFER to Interior Lighting Testing and Inspection.
-------------------------------------------------
AN3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IPC DTCs from the continuous self-test.
- Is DTC U0140:00 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test BF. Pinpoint Tests BF: DTC U0140:00
No
GO to AN4.
-------------------------------------------------
AN4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded BCM DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to Body Control Module (BCM) DTC Chart in Multifunction Electronic Modules Testing and Inspection for correct navigation of the DTC.
No
INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
