Starter Motor
Removal and Installation
WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery before disconnecting the starter motor battery terminal lead. If a tool is shorted at the starter motor battery terminal, the tool can quickly heat enough to cause a skin burn. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect.
3. Remove the LH front wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires Removal and Replacement.
4. Remove the 3 pushpins and the left front inner fender splash shield.
5. Remove the solenoid terminal cover from the terminals.
6. Remove the solenoid terminal nuts and disconnect the solenoid electrical connections.
- To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
- To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
7. Remove the ground cable retaining nut. Position the ground cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
8. Remove the 2 starter motor stud bolts, the bolt and the starter motor.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
