Pinpoint Test A: All Dimmable Illumination Is Inoperative
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 71, Cluster and Panel Illumination for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
When the side, main or parking lamps are on, the instrument panel dimmer switch (part of the headlamp switch) sends a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) voltage to the dimmable illumination sources.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Instrument panel dimmer switch (part of the headlamp switch)
PINPOINT TEST A: ALL DIMMABLE ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE
-------------------------------------------------
A1 CHECK THE PARKING LAMP OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Turn the parking lamps on.
- Do the parking lamps operate correctly?
Yes
GO to A2 .
No
REFER to Exterior Lighting Testing and Inspection.
-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Turn the parking lamps off.
- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch C205-11, circuit 29-LE29 (OG/BK), harness side and the headlamp switch C205-10, circuit 31-LE29 (BK), harness side.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to A3.
No
REPAIR circuit 31-LE29 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
A3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- NOTE: If the fuse in the jumper wire fails, repair the dimmable lighting output circuit for a short to ground.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the headlamp switch C205-9, circuit 29S-DA2 (OG/BU), harness side and the headlamp switch C205-11, circuit 29-LE29 (OG/BK), harness side.
- Do the backlighting components illuminate?
Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to Exterior Lighting Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit 29S-DA2 (OG/BU) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
