Removal and Installation
NOTICE: Do not allow the steering column to rotate while the steering column shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring may result. If there is evidence that the steering column has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Service and Repair.
1. Remove the driver air bag module. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Service and Repair.
2. Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. If equipped, disconnect the steering wheel switches electrical connector.
4. Remove the steering wheel bolt.
- To install, tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
5. Remove the steering wheel.
6. Tape the clockspring center rotor to the outer housing to keep it from rotating.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
