Pinpoint Test R: The Safety Belt Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Restraints Control Module (RCM) monitors the safety belt position through the safety belt buckle switch. The RCM (Restraints Control Module) provides the safety belt buckle status to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus.

If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the safety belt buckle switch status from the RCM (Restraints Control Module) for less than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the safety belt warning indicator to the last on/off state, based upon the last known good safety belt status message received.

If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the safety belt status from the RCM (Restraints Control Module) for greater than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0151:00 and defaults the safety belt warning indicator off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- RCM (Restraints Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST R : THE SAFETY BELT WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

R1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE RCM (Restraints Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the RCM (Restraints Control Module) self-tests.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Restraints and Safety Systems &/or Air Bag Systems.

No
GO to R2.

R2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0151:00 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AZ. Pinpoint Test AZ: DTC U0151:00

No
GO to R3.

R3 CARRY OUT THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) safety belt warning indicator (SBLT_LAMP) active command. Command the safety belt warning indicator on and off while observing the safety belt warning indicator.

Does the safety belt warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
INSTALL a new RCM (Restraints Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
