Pinpoint Test Y: The Cruise Control Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the cruise control indicator on request from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). When the cruise control switch is placed in the ON position, the PCM sends the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) a standby mode request and the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) illuminates the cruise control indicator in gray. When the cruise control is engaged, the PCM sends a cruise control on request message to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) and the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) changes the cruise control indicator illumination from gray to green.

If the cruise control message is missing or if the data is deemed invalid by the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0100:00 in continuous memory and defaults the cruise control indicator off.

NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Cruise control system concern

- PCM

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
