When the ignition is in RUN, the headlamps are not on (from the autolamp system or manual control from the headlamp switch), the transmission is not in park, the Body Control Module (BCM) illuminates the headlamps at a reduced intensity (vehicles with halogen headlamps) or the front turn lamps at full intensity (vehicles with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Exterior lighting system input/output

- Transmission gear input

- BCM (Body Control Module)

- Ignition OFF.

- Place the headlamp switch in the ON position and activate the hazard lamp function.

Do the headlamps and front turn lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to M2.

No
REFER to Headlamps Testing and Inspection or Turn Signal and Hazard Lamps Testing and Inspection.

M2 VERIFY THE DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) OPERATION

- Ignition ON.

- Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position and deactivate the hazard lamp function.

- Place the gear selector lever in any gear other than PARK (P).

Are the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) illuminated?

- Monitor the PCM transmission gear status PID (TR) while placing the gear selector lever through all its positions.

Does the PID agree with the gear selection?

Yes
GO to M5.

No
REFER to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle &/or Transmission Control Systems to diagnose the transmission range input.

M5 CHECK THE BCM (Body Control Module) FOR DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) CONFIGURATION

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: BCM (Body Control Module) Configuration.

- Check the BCM (Body Control Module) configuration and make sure the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) feature is enabled.

Is the BCM (Body Control Module) DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) feature enabled

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
ENABLE the DRL (Daytime Running Lamps) configuration. TEST the system for normal operation.
