Normal Operation

- DTC U0101:00 (Lost Communication With TCM (Transmission Control Module) : No Sub Type Information)- sets in continuous memory in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) if data messages received from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds or longer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- TCM (Transmission Control Module) (diesel engine)

- PCM (gasoline engines)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST BB : DTC U0101:00

BB1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

- Ignition ON.

- Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to BB2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

BB2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.

- Carry out the network test.

Does the TCM (Transmission Control Module) module pass the network test?

Yes
GO to BB3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

BB3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded?

Yes
For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BK. Pinpoint Test BK: DTC U3003:16

For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BL. Pinpoint Test BL: DTC U3003:17
No
GO to BB4.

BB4 RECHECK THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.

- Clear the DTCs.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Repeat the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC U0101:00 still present?

Yes
GO to BB5.

- Wait 10 seconds.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test.

- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.

Is DTC U0101:00 set in the ABS module?

Yes
INSTALL a new TCM (Transmission Control Module) (diesel engine) or PCM (gasoline engines). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
