Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Parking Brake System: Adjustments

1. Ensure parking brake is released.
2. With transmission in neutral, raise and support vehicle. Support rear axle with jackstands.
3. Tighten parking brake nut against brake equalizer until rear brakes drag. Then, loosen adjusting nut until rear brakes are fully released. There should be no brake drag. If brake cables are replaced in any system having a foot-operated control assembly, stroke parking brake control with approximately 445 Nm (100 ft lb) pedal effort, then release control and repeat this step.
4. Lower vehicle, then check parking brake operation.
