Removal

1. Drain the engine cooling system.

2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.

3. Disconnect cooling fan motor from headlamp dash panel junction wire.

4. Remove the cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud as an assembly.

5. Remove the generator drive belt.

6. Remove all accessory brackets which attach to the water pump. Remove the water pump pulley.

7. Disconnect the lower radiator hose, heater water hose and water bypass hose at the water pump.

Remove the front cover retaining bolts except for the water pump retaining bolts. Leave water pump attached to the engine front cover.

8. Drain the crankcase.

9. Remove the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft vibration damper. Remove the damper attaching capscrew and washer. Install Crankshaft Damper Remover on the crankshaft vibration damper. Remove the vibration damper.

NOTE: Cover the front oil pan opening while the engine front cover is off to prevent foreign material from entering the oil pan.

10. Remove the oil pan-to-engine front cover attaching bolts. Carefully separate the engine front cover from the oil pan gasket. Remove the engine front cover and water pump as an assembly.

If a new engine front cover is to be installed, remove the water pump from the old engine front cover and install it on the new engine front cover.

11. Discard the engine timing cover gasket.

12. Check the timing chain deflection. Replace timing chain and sprockets as required.
