Test R: Voice Recognition Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

TEST R: VOICE RECOGNITION IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

Normal Operation
The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) sends a reference voltage to the steering wheel controls through circuit VME45 (BU/OG). When the VOICE button is pressed, the APIM recognizes the change in reference voltage and the audio system enters voice recognition mode. A microphone located in the interior rear view mirror receives the voice command and sends a signal to the APIM through circuits VMN13 (YE/GN) and RME13 (BU). The microphone is also used to detect outgoing audio during a phone call.

The voice recognition only functions with the SYNC system; it does not have direct functionality with the audio control module (ACM). As a result, the voice recognition does not control the radio tuner, CD player, or satellite audio system.

- DTC B1038 (Microphone Input Circuit Failure) - sets during the on-demand self-test if the APIM does not detect the microphone.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Steering wheel controls
- Microphone (part of the interior rear view mirror)
- APIM
