Installation
BRAKE (REAR): REAR BRAKE: INSTALLATION
HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
1. INSTALL REAR DISC
(a) Align the matchmarks of the rear disc and axle hub and install the rear disc.
Text in Illustration
NOTICE:
When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has the smallest runout.
2. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING
(a) Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting to the axle beam with the 2 bolts.
Torque : 57 Nm (585 kgf-cm, 42 ft-lbf)
3. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT
(a) Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of the 2 new rear disc brake bush dust boots where they contact the rear disc brake cylinder mounting, and the entire inner circumference of both ends of the boots.
Text in Illustration
HINT
Apply at least 0.3 g (0.01 oz.) of lithium soap base glycol grease to the rear disc brake bush dust boot.
NOTICE:
Apply a sufficient amount of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of the rear disc brake bush dust boot and rear disc brake cylinder mounting contact surfaces.
(b) Install the 2 rear disc brake bush dust boots to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
4. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN
(a) Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins.
Text in Illustration
(b) Install the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE
(a) Install the 2 rear disc brake pad support plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
NOTICE:
Be sure to install each rear disc brake pad support plate in the correct position and direction.
6. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM
(a) Apply a light coat of disc brake grease to the back plate of the rear disc brake pads.
Text in Illustration
(b) Apply a light coat of disc brake grease to the No. 1 anti-squeal shims.
Text in Illustration
(c) Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim and rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim to each rear disc brake pad.
(d) Install the 2 No. 1 anti-squeal shims and 2 No. 2 anti-squeal shims to the brake pads.
NOTICE:
* When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
* Apply a light coat of disc brake grease to the area that contacts the anti-squeal shim.
* Disc brake grease may seep out slightly from the areas where the anti-squeal shims are installed.
* Make sure that disc brake grease is not applied to the lining surface.
7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD
(a) Install the 2 disc brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.
NOTICE:
Make sure there is no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the disc brake pads or the rear disc.
8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) To compensate for pad lining thickness, use SST to adjust the protrusion of the rear disc brake piston by turning it.
SST : 09719-12010
09719-01030
NOTICE:
* Place the rear disc between the 2 rear disc brake pads and determine the piston return value.
* Turn the rear disc brake piston to the position where the protrusion on the rear disc brake pad lines up properly with the piston groove.
(b) Hold the rear disc brake cylinder slide pin and install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts.
Torque : 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
Install the lower bolt first, and then the upper bolt.
9. CONNECT REAR BRAKE FLEXIBLE HOSE
(a) Install a new gasket and connect the flexible hose to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with a new union bolt.
Torque : 33 Nm (340 kgf-cm, 25 ft-lbf)
HINT
Insert the flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the disc brake cylinder.
10. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
(a) Insert the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly into the rear disc brake cylinder assembly and attach the clip of the No. 3 parking brake cable to the rear disc brake cylinder guide as shown in the illustration.
Text in Illustration
(b) Connect the No. 3 parking brake cable end to the rear disc brake cylinder operation lever.
(c) Install the parking brake lever protector.
