Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and Installation
Front Drive Shaft Components:Front
Removal
1) Undo caulking (1) and remove drive shaft nut (2).
2) Hoist vehicle and remove wheel.
3) Drain front differential oil.
4) Disconnect tie-rod end from steering knuckle. Steering Knuckle Removal and Installation
5) Remove stabilizer joint from stabilizer bar. Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bushing Removal and Installation
6) Remove brake hose mounting bolt. Front Strut Assembly Removal and Installation
7) Remove suspension control arm. Front Suspension
8) Remove front drive shaft flange nuts (1).
9) Remove drive shaft assembly from front differential.
NOTE:
To prevent breakage of boots (wheel side and differential side), do not contact them with other parts when removing drive shaft assembly.
Installation
NOTE:
Failure to take proper precautions when installing the drive shaft may result in damage to or breakage of the drive shaft assembly.
- Be careful not to damage the oil seals and boots when installing the drive shaft.
- Insert joints only by hand. Never hit joint boots with a hammer.
- Make sure that the differential-side joint is fully inserted and the snap ring is seated in position.
Install drive shaft assembly by reversing removal procedure and noting the following points.
- Use new differential side joint circlip.
- Tighten front drive shaft flange nuts to the specified torque. Front Drive Shaft Components
- Tighten control arm mounting bolt to specified torque. Front Suspension
- Tighten brake hose mounting bolt to specified torque. Front Strut Assembly Removal and Installation
- Tighten stabilizer joint nut to specified torque. Front Suspension Frame, Stabilizer Bar and/or Bushing Removal and Installation
- Tighten tie-rod end nut to specified torque. Service and Repair
- Tighten new drive shaft nut to specified torque. Front Drive Shaft Components
- Fill front differential with oil as specified. Front Differential Oil Change
