HID Bulb
CAUTION!
• Turn off the ignition and all electrical components.
• Remove the ignition key.
• Pay attention the safety precautions when working with HID headlamp bulbs. Refer to => [ HID Headlamps ] HID Headlamps.
Removing
- Remove headlamp.
- Remove the screw - 1 -, open the clip - 2 - and remove the cover.
- Remove the cover from the mount - 3 -.
- Disengage harness connector - 1 - by turning connector 90° - arrow - toward left and disconnect.
- Turn the retaining ring - 2 - of the HID bulb to the left and remove.
CAUTION!
• There are pressures from 7 bar (cold) to 100 bar (hot) in the glass portion of the HID bulb. The hot glass of the bulb can reach temperatures of up to 1300° F (700° C).
• The glass can explode and there is a danger of burning.
• When removing and installing HID bulbs, always wear safety glasses and gloves.
- Carefully remove the gas-discharge bulb.
Installing
CAUTION!
• Do not touch the glass of the HID bulb when installing. Your fingers will leave traces of grease on the glass which will evaporate and cloud the glass when the bulb is switched on.
• Do not subject the HID bulb glass to any mechanical stress. Glass cone is extremely sensitive and is also under high pressure.
• Avoid looking directly into the light beam, since the UV-rays given off by the gas-discharge lamp are approximately 2.5 times stronger than those of a halogen bulb.
• When installing cap, ensure proper seating. It is destroyed by ingress of water into headlamp.
- Install the new HID bulb so that retaining tab on the lamella disc lie in cut-outs in reflector.
- Place the retaining ring - 1 - with both cut-outs - arrow - over the tabs - 2 - on the HID bulb - 3 - and turn it to the right.
- Make sure the headlamp is working correctly.
