- Ignition off
- Install the memory cassette
- Connect Volvo Scan Tool (ST) 998 8686 Replaced by 9511532 998 8686 Replaced By 9511532 with adapter box 951 1457 Adaptor 951 1457 Adaptor and wiring 951 1460 Scan tool cable 1 meters 951 1460 Scan Tool Cable 1 Meters or 951 1458 Scan tool cable 6 meters 951 1458 Scan Tool Cable 6 Meters to the data link connector (DLC) which is positioned on the left-hand side of the center console. (On right-hand drive cars the data link connector (DLC) is located on the right-hand side of the center console.)

- Power up the Volvo Scan Tool (ST)
- Select language, car and group of functions
- Select system
- Select the activity (readout, erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), activate components etc.).
