Removal





REMOVAL

Preparation:
- Remove engine hood.
- Disconnect negative (-) battery cable.

1. Front console.
- Remove transfer control lever knob.
- Disconnect wiring harness connectors.
2. Selector lever assembly.
3. Transfer control lever
4. Air cleaner assembly





5. Harness.
- Disconnect transmission harness connectors and mode switch harness connector from engine harness.
- Disconnect harness clamp from engine clamp bracket.
- Disconnect ground cable from engine.

7. Rear propeller shaft
8. Rear Mount Nut
- Support transmission with a jack.





- Remove two rear mount nuts from the 3rd crossmember side.
9. Third crossmember.
- Remove eight third crossmember bolts.
- Remove oxygen sensor bracket from the third crossmember.

11. Exhaust pipe





- Disconnect four oxygen sensor connectors from the transmission harness connector.
- Remove left and right catalytic converter assemblies.

NOTE: It may be necessary to swing the transmission to remove the right catalytic converter assembly.

12. Transmission oil cooler pipe





- Disconnect transmission oil cooler pipe from A/T side. Remove oil pipe clamp bracket from engine stiffener.
- Loosen oil pipe clamp bolt at the engine mount side.

- Remove five stiffener bolts.





15. Heat protector.

17. Flywheel under cover
- Remove flywheel under cover from transmission case.
18. Flywheel - torque converter bolt
- Remove flywheel torque converter fixing bolts (3 pieces) by turning crankshaft.
19. Engine-transmission bolt.
- Hoist engine with a chain block.
- Remove engine-transmission bolts.
