Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 24 Fuel Pump Bypass Terminal I.D.:

1. Remove air flow sensor boot.
2. Disconnect electrical plug on warm up regulator to avoid heating it up until cold control pressure is checked.
3. Remove fuel pump relay, and use a jumper wire across the terminals of the socket to energize the fuel pump, Fig. 24.
4. Run pump for approx. 10 seconds to build up fuel pressure.
5. Lift air flow sensor plate manually. A uniform resistance should be felt along its entire path. No resistance should be felt during fast downward movement since the slowly following control piston will fall slower than the lever. If the air flow sensor plate is lowered slowly, the control piston should remain in contact with the lever.
NOTE: If the sensor plate comes in contact with any part of the housing, many starting and driveability problems could result. See "ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES" to correct.
