Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair



Note: The speedometer vehicle speed sensor and the drive gear can be replaced with the transmission installed.

Replacing Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor






- Disconnect harness connector from sensor -A-.
- Press down retaining clamp and carefully remove sensor; do not damage sensor, or indicated vehicle speed may not be accurate.
- Check seal -B- when installing; replace if necessary.

Replacing Speedometer Drive Gear
- Disconnect left-side drive axle from drive flange.






- Remove drive flange and drive-flange oil seal -B-.
- Remove speedometer drive gear -A- by alternately prying with screwdriver on drive lugs (arrows -1-).

When installing, note following:
- Collar (arrow -2-) points toward differential housing.
- Drive lugs (arrows -1-) face oil seal -B- and engage in grooves of differential housing.
- Replace oil seal -B- and drive flange shaft circlip -C-.
- Top up transmission oil.
