Beginning with Model Year 1994 (1993 in California), law requires that certain words and terms (nomenclature) must be uniformly applied by all manufacturers when referring to emission related components and systems.

Some of the replacement terms may at first seem unfamiliar but they will be used by all manufacturers when referring to these same components or systems.

The following word list will be periodically updated as new terms are approved. While not complete, the list attempts to cover those applications presently being used by Volkswagen and Audi Publications.

Use the information contain Technical Bulletin as a reference when naming or identifying components. This Bulletin supercedes the previously published Bulletin 00-92-02, May 30, 1992.
