Drivers Airbag Unit - Removing/Installing

DRIVER'S AIRBAG UNIT, REMOVING/INSTALLING

Removing

WARNING
Always disconnect the airbag voltage supply connector before working on any airbag or steering column component. Disconnecting the battery Ground (GND) strap alone will NOT prevent accidental airbag deployment.

CAUTION!
Before servicing any part of the electrical system, disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.

- obtain radio security code

- disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap

- disconnect airbag voltage supply (B+) connector




remove left and right airbag unit retaining screws (Torx T3O)

- tilt airbag unit (horn bar) down




remove airbag unit connector retaining strap (front passenger's airbag unit is identical)

- unhook bracket -upper arrow-

- remove airbag unit connector -lower arrow- and remove airbag unit

- remove airbag unit screws from steering wheel if necessary

Installing

- install airbag unit in reverse order of removal noting the following:

- start airbag unit mounting screws by hand

- tighten right mounting screw first, then left

^ 6 Nm (53 in. lb) each
