Downshift Switch: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING AND ADJUSTING KICKDOWN SWITCH

Checking

- Remove noise insulation.
- Disconnect 2-pin kickdown switch connector.
- Connect multimeter (Fluke 83 or equivalent) to kickdown switch connector terminals 1 and 2 using adapter cables from VW 1594 connector test kit.
^ Specified value: (infinite ohms)

- Slowly depress accelerator pedal.

Checking Kickdown Switch Adjustment:




^ Kickdown switch must be switched between points A and B.
^ Specified value: 0 ohms

If switching point of the kickdown switch does not lie within range between A and B, adjust kickdown switch.

Adjusting

- Loosen kickdown switch mounting screws.

Adjusting Kickdown Switch:




- Press throttle lever by hand against wide open throttle stop (arrow).

Adjusting Kickdown Switch:




- Adjust kickdown switch so that kickdown switch lever rests on throttle cam (arrow).
- Tighten mounting screws and secure with paint seal.
