Check Control Module Version

REQUIREMENTS
- Fuses for engine electronics OK
- Fuel pump relay OK.
- Ground connections OK.

PROCEDURE
- Connect the VAG 1551, Refer to Connecting and Operating VAG Scan Tool With MMS 311 Engine Management System

- After the display appears as shown:

Select function XX

- Select function code.
^ Check Control Module Version, Function 01

- Display will appear as shown:

- Press Q button to enter input.
The engine control module identification number is indicated via the display, for example: 8A0 906 266 B. Display will appear as follows:

- Display breakdown is as follows:

^ ECM identification: 8A0 906 266 E (example)
^ Engine displacement: 2.8 liters
^ Engine type: V-engine, 6 cylinder
^ Number of valves per cylinder: 2 valves
^ Fuel injection system: MPI multiport fuel injection
^ ECM hardware and software version: D02
^ ECM coding: e.g. 01042
^ Current code number for the factory or service facility that was used to carry out the last coding and/or adaptation with the VAG 1551 scan tool: WSC 06388

- Check for correct ECM coding, Refer to Engine Control Module Coding Table. Engine Control Module Coding Table

NOTE: Only during idle speed do correct specifications regarding the engine control module number and related coding occur.
