All Audi Quattro Models
Most states have implemented, or are in the process of implementing, enhanced emissions testing programs for 1972 and later model year vehicles. These enhanced tests consist of running vehicles on dynamometers to check the tailpipe emissions while the vehicle is being driven. Most of these vehicle dynamometers are only designed to test 2 wheel drive vehicles or 4 wheel drive vehicles, in which the front wheels can be mechanically disconnected from the drivetrain.
Quattro - equipped vehicles are "FULL TIME ALL WHEEL DRIVE" and cannot be tested on 2 - wheel drive dynamometers without causing damage to the vehicle. If Audi customers who own these Quattro equipped vehicles come to your dealership with questions or concerns on how to get their Quattro equipped vehicles tested, please proceed as follows:
- Tell the customer that testing a Quattro equipped vehicle on a "2 - wheel dynamometer" will cause damage to the vehicle driveline.
- Refer to the list of "STATE MAINTENANCE COORDINATORS" and have the customer telephone the coordinator located in their state to request a vehicle waiver for their Quattro equipped vehicle.
AUDI of America is in the process of addressing this issue on a permanent basis, and will inform you of the outcome, as soon as additional information is available.
