Toe

Description

Fig. 3 Toe Dimensions:

Toe should only be checked and adjusted after the caster and camber have been adjusted to specification.
Check toe with the front wheels in the straight ahead position. Lock steering wheel in place and measure distance between extreme front and also between the extreme rear of both front wheels. The difference between these two distances is the toe-in, or toe-out dimensions, Fig. 3.

Adjustment

Use only optical measuring equipment when checking and adjusting toe.

1. Turn steering gear to center position, then remove lower gear box cover plate attaching bolt.
2. Attach centering tool 3075 or equivalent, with bracket over mounting nut on left tie rod.
3. Remove bolt from spacer on chain of centering tool.
4. Insert bolt removed in step 3, in hole marked ``L'' on centering tool, then tighten to steering gear.
5. Measure, then divide total toe in half.
6. Loosen clamps and outer locknut on both tie rods.
7. Turn tie rods until toe is within specifications.
8. Tighten clamps and locknuts on tie rods, then check and position steering wheel in center position as necessary. Remove centering tool, then tighten lower gear box cover plate attaching bolt to specifications.
