Air Injection Pump: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING MOTOR
- Initiate Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) and actuate AIR pump relay -J299-. Refer to On Board Diagnosis. Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)
^ Output DTM actuates secondary air injection pump motor for 10 seconds. Running noise of motor can be heard.

If the AIR pump motor does not run, check control as follows:
- Switch ignition OFF.
- Disconnect 2-pin harness connector from AIR pump motor.

2 Pin Harness Connector:

- Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester to both terminals of disconnected harness connector using adapters from VW 1594 connector test kit
- Switch ignition ON.
- Initiate Output DTM and actuate AIR pump relay -J299-. Refer to On-Board Diagnostics.
^ LED must light up for approx. 10 seconds.

If LED lights up (voltage supply OK):
- Replace AIR pump motor -V101-.

If LED does NOT light up:
- Check wiring between AIR pump motor and AIR pump relay, as well as Ground (GND) connection, using wiring diagram.

If there is no malfunction in the wiring:
- Check secondary air injection pump relay.
