Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Transmission Control Systems: Service Precautions

Safety Precautions

When road testing and using testing and measuring equipment, observe the following:

WARNING!
- Always secure test and measuring equipment on the rear seat and have it operated from there by a second technician.
- If you would operate test and measuring equipment from the front passenger's seat, the air bag, deployed during an accident could injure a person sitting there.

To prevent injury or damage to test and measuring equipment and to electrical and electronic car components, observe the following:

- Always switch the ignition off before connecting or disconnecting test or measuring equipment.
- During certain tests it can happen that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) recognizes a malfunction which is then stored in memory. It is therefore necessary to check the DTC memory and erase it after all tests and repairs are completed.
- Always switch the ignition off when connecting or disconnecting the battery, otherwise the TCM may be damaged.
