Front Passenger Airbag
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags => [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Airbag Safety Precautions.
1 - Front passenger airbag unit
• Removing
• Battery must be disconnected with ignition switched on.
- Switch on ignition.
- Disconnect battery.
- Remove glove compartment => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.
• Mechanic must electrostatically discharge himself/herself before disconnecting harness connectors; to do so, grasp e.g. door striker or chassis briefly.
- Disconnect connector for airbag unit - 9 - from coupling - 10 -.
CAUTION!
Connector - 2 - on passenger airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances.
- Remove nuts - 8 - (Qty. 4).
- Remove airbag unit - 1 - downward.
- Place airbag unit - 1 - so padding faces upward.
• Installing
Installation is reverse of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
- Replace airbag securing components after a deployment
- Make sure that airbag unit connector - 9 - engages completely (audibly) with coupling on airbag unit - 10 -.
CAUTION!
No one should be in vehicle when connecting battery.
- Connect the battery.
• If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- signals a malfunction after installation, DTC memory must be checked, erased and once again checked using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A).
2 - Connector
CAUTION!
Connector - 2 - on passenger airbag unit must not be disconnected under any circumstances.
3 - Airbag guide
• riveted to instrument panel
• cannot be replaced separately
• must be replaced with instrument panel after airbag deployment
4 - Bolts (Qty. 8), 4 Nm
• always replace after airbag has deployed.
5 - Retaining parts (Qty. 2)
• always replace after airbag has deployed.
• Remove passenger's airbag unit.
• Remove bolts - 4 - (Qty. 8).
• Remove retaining parts - 5 -.
6 - Instrument Panel
7 - Central tube
8 - Nut (Qty. 4), 5 Nm
• always replace after airbag has deployed.
9 - Airbag unit connector
10 - Coupling for airbag unit
