Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench 40-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)

Removing






- Measure dimension from center of wheel to lower edge of wheel housing. Refer to => [ Rear Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.

- Remove the wheel.

- Remove coil spring. Refer to => [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Remove bolt - arrow - for lower transverse link - 1 -.

Vehicle with a Vehicle Level Sensor






- Remove bolts - 2 -.

Continuation for All Vehicles






- Disengage rear exhaust system and lower.

- Mark, e.g. using a felt-tip marker, position of eccentric bolt - arrow B - to subframe.

- Remove bolt - arrow B -.

- Remove lower transverse link.

Installing

Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Lower Transverse Link, Upper Transverse Link, Tie Rod and Level Control System Overview ] Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Lower Transverse Link, Upper Transverse Link, Tie Rod and Level Control System Overview.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing, Wheel Bearing Unit, Trailing Arm with Mounting Bracket and Stone Deflector Overview ] Wheel Bearing Housing, Wheel Bearing Unit, Trailing Arm With Mounting Bracket and Stone Deflector Overview.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Overview ] Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Overview.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Stabilizer Bar Overview ] Stabilizer Bar Overview.

Transverse link connection may only be carried out of dimension between wheel hub center and lower edge of wheel housing, measured before assembly, is achieved. Refer to => [ Rear Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Rear Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.

- Note applied marking of eccentric bolt - arrow B - to subframe.






Vehicle with a Vehicle Level Sensor






- Install the bolts - 2 - for the vehicle level sensor bracket. Refer to => [ Level Control System Sensor Overview ] Level Control System Sensor Overview.

Continuation for All Vehicles






- Install the bolt - arrow - for the lower transverse link - 1 -.

- Axle alignment is required, see Table => [ An axle alignment is necessary when: ] Wheel Alignment.

- Perform headlamp basic setting. Refer to => [ Level Control System Sensor Overview ] Level Control System Sensor Overview.

- On vehicles with electronically-controlled damping (Audi magnetic ride), reprogram the control position using the (VAS 5051).
