Instrument Panel

Removing

- Move the steering wheel as far down as possible.

- Move the seat all the way back and adjust the backrests to a 45° angle.

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel.

- Turn on the ignition.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery with the ignition on.

- Remove the driver airbag.

- Remove steering wheel.

- Remove the instrument cluster gap cover. Refer to => [ Instrument Cluster Gap Cover ] Instrument Cluster Gap Cover.

- Remove the driver side instrument panel cover => [ Instrument Panel Cover, Driver Side ] Instrument Panel Cover, Driver Side.

- Disconnect the connector.

- Vehicles with headlamp range control: Disconnect the connector on the headlamp adjuster (E102).

- Remove the side instrument panel vent. Refer to => [ Side Instrument Panel Vent ] Side Instrument Panel Vent.

- Remove the MMI screen cover. Refer to:

- Remove the MMI screen.

- Remove the instrument cluster.

- Disconnect the electrical connector on the access/start authorization switch. .

- Remove the center instrument panel vent. Refer to => [ Center Instrument Panel Vent ] Center Instrument Panel Vent.

- Remove the radio/navigation system.

- Remove the climatronic control module (J255)

- Remove the front information display control head module (J523).

- Remove center console. Refer to => [ Center Console ] Center Console.

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.


- Disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Airbag Unit with Igniters (N131)/(N132) ] Front Passenger Airbag Unit With Igniters (N131)/(N132).

- Vehicles equipped with speakers: remove the midrange speaker in the center of the instrument panel.

- Remove the sunlight photo sensor (G107)

- Vehicles with speakers: Remove the center midrange speaker inside the instrument panel.

- Remove the upper A-pillar trims. Refer to => [ A-Pillar Upper Trim ] A-Pillar Upper Trim.

- Remove glove compartment bracket. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment Bracket ] Glove Compartment Bracket.

- Remove the brace from the instrument panel.

- Remove the top left and right instrument panel bolts - 1 - in the A-pillar area.






- Remove the bottom left and right instrument panel bolts - 2 -.

- Remove the left and right air duct bolts - arrows - on the instrument panel.

- Remove the instrument panel bolts - 1 - on the center of the instrument panel central tube.






- Remove the instrument panel bolts - 2 - on the right of the instrument panel central tube.

- Remove the instrument panel bolt - 3 - on the left of the instrument panel central tube.

2 technicians are needed to remove the instrument panel.






- Carefully pull the instrument panel - 1 - back from the instrument panel central tube - A arrows -.

- Disengage the bottom of the instrument panel on the bracket - 2 - - arrow B - at the same time.

- Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle interior and lay it on a soft surface.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Follow the allocation of the airbag to the instrument panel. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

- Position the instrument panel vent and guide the electrical connectors for the sunlight photo sensor (G107) and speaker through the openings in the instrument panel.

- Check if there is a rubber buffer - 3 - on the clamp - 2 - on the lower windshield frame.






- When sliding the instrument panel - 1 - on, make sure the clips engage in the box-shaped profiles on the bottom side of the instrument panel.

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.


Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

- Align the instrument panel and tighten the bolts.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
