INTRODUCTION

The IHKR system is a semi-automatic climate control system. The acronym IHKR is derived from the German words Integrierte Heizungs- und Klima-Regelung, which translates to "integrated heating and air conditioning regulation."

Cabin heating and air conditioning components and functions, separate on some earlier BMW Systems, are integrated and work together to provide passenger comfort, regardless of ambient conditions. On IHKR systems, cabin air discharge temperature is regulated by controlling the flow of hot engine coolant through the climate control system heater cores.

IHKR is classified as a semi-automatic system because air discharge temperature is regulated automatically by the system control module, while blower speed is controlled manually by the driver.

IHKR is used on all E34 vehicles built for sale in the U.S. (Model Years 1989-1995) and most U.S. E36 vehicles (MY 1992-1995). IHKR is based on the IHKA system found on E32 vehicles.

This course covers:
- IHKR1 E34
- IHKR2 E34
- IHKR/F3 E34
- IHKR E36
